A niche blog dedicated to the issues that arise when supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) extend patents beyond their normal life -- and to the respective positions of patent owners, investors, competitors and consumers. The blog also addresses wider issues that may be of interest or use to those involved in the extension of patent rights. You can email The SPC Blog here

SPC seminar sound-track now available

The sound file containing the various papers delivered at the SPC Blog seminar last month turned out to be vast -- too big by far for hosting on the Google Group server that hosts the blog's email subscription. Olswang has agreed to host it here for the time being, though (thanks!).

SPC Blog seminar

If you aren't able to attend the SPC Blog's seminar tomorrow, but would like to peruse a recording of the talks, please email me here and let me know. Right now it looks as though, subject to the speakers' agreement, we should be able to make a video recording of each of the presentations. The blog also hopes to make the speakers' PowerPoint slides available.

SPC Blog seminar -- a reminder

Just a quick reminder -- if you've not yet registered to attend The SPC Blog seminar, which is coming up on the afternoon of Wednesday 28 January (not Thursday 29), is being hosted by law firm Olswang in its London office. Remarkably, 60 people have registered so far, drawn from the pharma and agrochemical sectors, private practice and academe. We wonder when was the last time that so many people, drawn together by a shared interest in SPCs, will have spent so much time in each other's company in pursuit of a greater understanding of the issues and solutions.

Full details of the programme can be found here; if you'd like to attend but haven't yet said so, you can still RSVP Natalie Smith here.

SPC seminar coming up!

"Supplementary Protection Certificates" is the surprise choice of title for The SPC Blog's first seminar on the subject, which is coming up on 28 January 2009. The seminar, which occupies the whole of Wednesday afternoon (with drinks to follow), will look at hot topics in the field of SPC law and practice, examining in particular any differences that arise between practice in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. Speakers are European Patent Attorneys Michèle Lavé (Cabinet Alice de Pastors, Paris) and Niels Hoelder (Germany), plus Deputy Director of the UK Intellectual Property Office Lawrence Cullen. The event is chaired by SPC Blog team member Robert Stephen, a European Patent Attorney at law firm Olswang (which has kindly agreed to host the event).

You can read and download the formal invitation here. If you'd like to attend, email Natalie Smith here and let her know. Space is limited and we can't guarantee to squeeze everyone in, but we hope we won't disappoint anyone.
